This volume brings together papers given at The History of Geoconservation confe rence, held at the Dudley Museum in Dudley, England, in November 2006. Burek (bi ological sciences, U. of Chester, UK) and Prosser, who is associated with a cons ervation organization, offer 22 essays on the history of geoconservation that de scribe what it is, when and how it started, who was responsible for its evolutio n, and how it has differed in the British Isles and around the world. The essays on specific sites focus on the UK and Europe but also include locations in Aust ralia and World Heritage and Geoparks sites in other parts of the world. They di scuss contributions made by academics, geological societies, governments, conser vationists, volunteers, and local communities.
